Painting Summer Produce - 6 Week Course

August & September at Sebastopol Center for the Arts

In this six session course, students will learn a unique approach to watercolor, intended to address the frustration that many feel with this challenging medium. The class will focus on strengthening one’s observational skills, while learning a watercolor technique that teaches the artist to see value and color.

Throughout the course, we will work on 3 paintings, progressing through simpler to more complex forms. With a mix of demonstrations and individualized instruction, students of all experience levels will develop new skills and have a meaningful creative experience.

Our unifying subject will be seasonal produce - fruits, vegetables, and herbs. These subjects are great for beginners and master painters alike; their organic shapes are forgiving drawing subjects, but their beauty can be a muse for life.

Instructor Hannah Day is a passionate produce lover and botanical painter and will share her unique approach to rendering botanicals. This class will work from life, practicing observational drawing, in addition to watercolor technique.

With six class sessions, participants will have the opportunity to develop their skills and build muscle memory with a medium that often feels like it has a mind of its own.

Paper Arts Courses

Mini Tunnel Books

3 Week Workshop, August at Sebastopol Center for the Arts

After viewing and discussing the work of masterful papercutting artists, participants will develop their own ideas and create an original design to execute in class. We will cover the principles of paper cutting design as well as proper knife handling and cutting technique, and participants will have guidance every step of the way through assembling their tunnel book.
